Supplements for Dogs
As Readers of The Dog Cancer Survival Guide know, Dr. Dressler considers his approach to cancer a "full spectrum" approach. He considers every possible angle and every possible treatment that has been shown may help a dog with cancer. If it may help, he includes it -- even if it flies in the face of conventional wisdom. This focus on "what works in reality" is part of something called evidence-based medicine, and an important part of Dr. Dressler's approach. Full Spectrum supplements are nutraceuticals and supplements that have been shown to be safe and helpful for most dogs with cancer. As you browse, make sure that you keep in mind that the use of any of these supplements should be done with the supervision of a veterinarian who understands your dog's cancer and can ensure they won't interfere or complicate other health conditions or treatments. Many readers ask "Which supplements are most important to give to my dog?" To answer that question, these supplements have been grouped into three levels of priority.
First Priority Supplements: Help Manage Side Effects Your first priority is managing symptoms and side effects of traditional cancer therapy (radiation and chemo). If your dog is suffering from nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, be sure to check these First Priority supplements out.
Second Priority Supplements: Help Fight Cancer The second priority supplements have published scientific evidence of fighting cancer in laboratory animals. (Please see chapter 12 in The Dog Cancer Survival Guide.)
Third Priority Supplements: Immunity and Anti-Metastatics Third priority supplements may help boost the immune system or may help keep cancer from spreading. For more detail about supplements and suggested dosing, please consult The Dog Cancer Survival Guide and your veterinarian.
